Celebrities are not our Friends, Bloggers reveal

Bloggers around the country revealed at the Ghana Bloggers Summit 2021 that, making celebrities your friend is one step of killing your blog.


The summit organized by Avance Media (avancemedia.org) that took place at the Alisa Hotels in Accra brought together bloggers across the country under one umbrella in the likes of George Britton, Kwadwo Sheldon, Juliana Ntiamoah popularly known as Julie Jay- Kanz, Shepherd Yaw Morttey of Mfidie,com, Kofi Cephas of GhGossips, Samuel Berimah Amoaning of entamoty.net, Rashad Emmanuel Kojo of GhPage, Nana Tamakloe of GhFashion, and among others.

                                          

According to the bloggers, blogging is not all about entertainment and also chasing the lifestyle of celebrities and even in their closet but every aspect of the society can be your field of blogging.

Shepherd Yaw Morttey, founder of Mfidie.com said, “When I started blogging in 2015, it was all entertainment blogs but I decided to blog on machines which makes me the only blogger in Ghana who writes about machines”. He added that, he quitted his well-paid job to be a full time blogger which makes him comfortable.

Negativity in blogging was underrated by most of the bloggers who emphasized on fake news being the trend of blogging. Julie Jay –Kanz said, “Fake news will not sustain your blog”. She added that it is difficult to regulate blogging sites in Ghana and the laws of the country are against defamation.

“Passion drives blogging. Forget the money, create value and maintain the value”, Kofi Cephas, founder of GhGossip.com said. The multiple award winning blogger added that, a good content creates audience and the audience that visits your blogs gives you contract for ads and that will be your source of income. He said, “I write the truth, so I will advise you, do not make celebrities your friends as a blogger”.

Bloggers are gradually taking over the traditional media space of disseminating news and this has also employed youth across the country. “Blogging is creating employment for many journalists and other people across the country”, founder of GB Interactive Limited,  George Britton disclosed.

Gh Page owner Rashad Emmanuel Kojo encouraged upcoming bloggers to keep up with the good spirit of writing and that blogging pays. He said, “Blogging demands three things, passion, consistency and diversifying”.

Blogging is currently taking over the traditional media in Ghana with lots of bloggers blogging on all aspect of life being it education, lifestyle, entertainment, fashion, sports, nature, among others.
