The Twist of Bribery & Corruption as NSS registration begun

By An NSS Applicant

Persons claiming to be officials from National Service Secretariat (NSS) are requesting for amounts of monies for special posting after it opened it portal for eligible graduates and final year students in tertiary institutions to register on Monday, July 25, 2022.

In the press release on NSS website, there was no session of it that was made to the general public of special posting.

Graduate and final year students have received messages and phone calls asking for their interest in what they call special posting by persons who claim to be officials from the scheme.

According to students, they faced challenges trying to access their PIN Codes with their index numbers and date of birth.

In their failure to assess their PIN Codes, these officials are charging GH¢14.00 to rectify the mistake made on their date of birth.

“I was charged GH¢ 14.00 when I could not assess my NSS PIN Code on the portal”, said an applicant. Some eligible personnel have their date of birth changed in the database of the NSS and are therefore denied entry.

However, persons who have been able to assess their PIN Codes are contacted to get their place of choice when the posting begins.

An amount of GH¢ 250.00 and GH¢ 300.00 is requested if you want to be posted to your choice of company, region and district. What is required of you is to give your NSS number.

National Service is a mandatory scheme that deploys a pool of skilled manpower drawn primarily from tertiary institutions to support the development efforts of both the public and private sectors in Ghana.

Although it is a citizenry requirement for all Ghanaians who are eighteen years and above, it is currently limited to and mandatory for all Ghanaians graduating from tertiary educational institutions.

The original intent of deploying freshly graduating youth under the NSS arrangement is to ensure that priority sectors of our national life are never lacking in the requisite human resources needed for development.

The purpose of this scheme working in the favor of peoples who are able to afford special posting and turns not in favor for those who cannot afford it.

Corrupt actions in the near future has it genesis from the very start of the persons mandatory service to the nation.

As cited on the NSS website, ‘The Scheme as currently constituted provides newly qualified graduates the opportunity to have practical exposure on the job, both in the public and private sectors, as part of their civic responsibility to the state.’ Why the favoritism?
